WOKING PUBLISHING HOUSE CHALLENGES THE CHURCH
By ROGER RAMAGE
HAVING established his home-based publishing company in 2001 and with five titles under the Pennant Publishing banner, David Pennant finally arrived at the point when he felt able to write and publish his own book.
His first work for his young
imprint, which will be available from next week, is highly
controversial and likely to cause another stir in the Church of
England.
After his ordination David, who is a long term Woking resident,
served his second curacy in charge of two small churches at
Brookwood and Mayford from 1988 to 1993. The Rev Dr Pennant
searched for a clear strategy for leading the church.
My first book, The Priorities of Jesus, tells the story of
this enquiry, he says.
To my surprise it not only took 15 years but I ended up
believing there were no genuine churches in the UK and probably
never have been.
David says the existing churches tend to focus on worshipping God
and teaching the Bible, but Jesus never raised either of these
subjects with the 12 disciples. Instead he gave them instructions
which, he claims, our so-called churches ignore.
The conclusion was not reached lightly, he says.
I have a PhD in biblical studies.
Unlike his other titles, this is much more than a low run
production. David has had several thousand copies printed by Page
Brothers of Norwich and they will take up seven cubic metres in
his already crowded music room while he sells them through his
website at £5 per copy plus 80p postage.
