New Testament Greek Online

Welcome

David Hill founded the Guildford Diocesan Greek Group in the 1980s. We used to meet at his home in Maybury, Woking, UK. In its heyday, we peaked at nineteen members, but when lockdown came, David felt unable to carry on leading the group, and we had shrunk to a handful. I then offered to run it online using Zoom, and we have continued to meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 1300. We generally number three or four.

The format is simple. We take it in turns to translate two verses each until closing time, which is 1340.

It's surprising what you learn. For example, I recently discovered from Acts 15 that Greek koimao, I sleep, is the root of our English word Cemetery. In other words, Cemetery is the equivalent of the Latin based word Dormitory, the place where you sleep. An encouraging reminder that death is not the end, as the New Testament proclaims many times.

New members are welcome. You don't need to have great Greek skills. You don't even have to translate: it's fine to be an observer. Please get in touch with me, and have a look at my Hebrew and Greek resources too.

Thank you, David Pennant, Woking, UK.
