The Bible. Word of God?
Word of Man?
by David Pennant
Having decided that the
Bible was the word of God as a teenager, I was faced with many
questions. How could a loving God order the wholesale slaughter
of the people of Canaan? Does the book of Proverbs encourage
abuse with its 'he who spares the rod hates his child'? Are Paul's
words 'I do not permit a woman to be a teacher' relevant today?
The book tells the story of how I formed a view on these and
other matters. The focus is on the process rather than on my
conclusions.
I end with a challenge: it's
my view that gathering weekly for worship is a distraction for
believers from our main task. Have I understood this rightly from
the Bible, or am I simply wrong?
